Background

SQC is among the first ECA activities that provided me with life-long experiences and memories. SQC became the seed in me which later directed me towards teamwork, critical thinking and prevented me from mark oriented thinking and encouraged me in my journey towards finding truth and value.

Introduction

Let’s dive into the SQC. This article is based on factual data and as I myself was part of SQC as a Secretariat of my circle. Today in this article I will answer these questions:-
  • What actually is the ‘Student Quality Circle’?
  • How does a student work in a ‘Circle’?
  • Why is it being taught in schools all over Nepal?
  • What is its impact on Students?

SQC

What is SQC?

logo of SQC

SQC stands for student quality circle. It is a practice in which students meet up regularly in their institution's premises to identify, analyze and solve the problems faced by them. The term 'Circle' is chosen to reflect no edges or hierarchy of power within the group as per circle. Or simply SQC refers to the group of students who meet up within their schools regularly to solve their problem critically and scientifically.

Aim

picture of attitude of person

The reason behind the SQC is to develop the prosocial personality of students and introduce them with modern tools and data analysis. It develops an attitude to work in a team and preparation of Total Quality Person. It also includes development of moral value along with education. Where brainstorming is an important aspect of SQC. It compels one to think and analyze his/her beliefs. SQC also provides opportunity of networking among students of various students and to hold memories.

Role as student

As per my experience our circle was named “Bright Soul” and we were six members(5 boys and 1 girl). We have a leader, deputy-leader and a secretary. Where SQC comprises 3 primary events in a row as

  • Hub Convention
  • NCSQC (National Convention of Student Quality Circle)
  • ICSQC (International Convention of Student Quality Circle)

Where Hub is the convention where local schools among each other reflects their reports and data.

NCSQC is the event where students all over nation reflect their data among themselves.

And ICSQC is the event where the international committee members and students come together.

Note:These conventions consist of workshops and ECA programs too. Where these events consist of fees for lodging and food. Which was Nrs.15,000/- (USD 113) as per 23rd ICSQC.

Our work went as follows:-

  • Brainstorming Of Issues faced by students
  • Voting on causes
  • Survey
  • Analysis
  • Survey among students among various classes
  • Finding root cause of issue
  • Finding it’s solution
  • Implementation of solutions
  • Survey for finding impact of implementations
  • Preparation for data presentation
  • Presenting data in Hub Convention,NCSQC and ICSQC
