Review
“You think you know the story, you think you know the place, think again"
This tagline can be justified as this was what I initially thought as well. Whilst reading the title and the little description that came with it, I thought to myself; “same old story, same old plot. 5 friends going to some abandoned, shady cabin in the middle of nowhere doing stupid shit and getting killed.” But, this movie took me completely by surprise. Some of the parts were somewhat guessable but the rest got me pretty impressed.
The movie started off with the classic storyline but there was another plot blooming alongside which got me a little confused at first but as the movie progressed, it all started making sense. Yes, the 5 friends do go to a shady cabin in the middle of nowhere and start getting killed by some haunted zombie family but, turns out it was all controlled by humans themselves resting below the cabin in their high-tech underground building. And this planning and plotting seemed to have been brewing not just there but all over the world. The reason behind all this seemed to be the classic “sacrifice few to save more” as part of some mysterious ritual.
This movie came with more comedy than horror for me. The satire and sarcasm used was top-notch and kept me wanting more and more. I ended up laughing and enjoying the movie and the characters a lot more than expected. By the end, the movie had projected tons of human behavior, tendencies and the irony that comes with it. The ending of the movie was a little out of the box than I had imagined, which got me a sense of satisfaction yet left me wanting a sequel.
