Introduction

Poster of Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

I am not a critic.
Moonrise Kingdom is a movie released in 2012 directed by Wes Anderson with Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola as the writers. It is whimsical and heartwarming coming-of-age story set on a fictional island in New England in 1965.

Background

I just finished watching Moonrise Kingdom. And I am really impressed and touched by it. The movie has really set up its world building aspect and theme in a great way and has included comedy in a clever way without or with very limited jokes where movie pulled out humor from all around the movie. It felt like a light heartfelt movie where it follows an interesting story (but not the one we should be inspired by) but at the end it was a great movie which follows a fun, funky story and a great example of a nice cinema. It touches various themes and aspects along with making it seen to me as less of a typical cinema and more of a drama.

Summary

First Sixteen Minutes

The movie for me in its first sixteen minutes impressed me with its camera movement and does a great way of world building through title style, background music and visuals. I liked the interaction between Scout Master Ward (Played by: Edward Norton) and his scout. The story tied us with its twist. I find the chats between the boys also funny as it seemed as a reflection of adult talk.

From 16 Minutes to 36 Minutes

The movie for me here shows us Sam (Played by: Jared Gilman) for the first time who is going all focused on his own way. Where Suzy (Played by: Kara Hayward) and Sam meet themselves. And it follows a flashback of a year ago where Sam met Suzy for the first time (where she was playing the role of a Raven bird). And left him with their post address and they continued being pen pals.I liked their part of running together through the forest and Suzy finding that book with her parents was quite humorous. Their relationship seemed to be strong without any humorous conversation but just acceptance and love for each other and their company. Where I got suspected between the potential affair between Mrs.Bishop (Played by: Frances McDormand) and Captain Shark (Played by:Bruce Willis)

From 36 Minutes to an 1 Hour and 10 Minutes

The movie for me here shows Sam and Suzy getting caught up where their portion was funny with that background music and the funny transition of fight. I noticed the movie establishing a lot of things in this portion along with it running things up as typical movie elements consisting of kids and dramatic/funny background music. Where the words “I Love You” were exchanged (44:00 minutes) followed by a kiss. And they got caught (47:00 minutes) by Scout and Captain Sharp. Here I was curious where the movie is headed as it finishes its initial suspense of them running away. It also introduced sides of cheating and scouts getting together to help Sam before getting send to Juvenile center. (I really liked their marriage)

Climax

The movie for me here sets up the climax scene as a tense portion as done in most of the movies where everything things comes together. It ended with a great a satisfactory ending as per the build up. Movie ended on a happy note (but with a relatively short climax) where their love won at the end.

Conclusion

Picture of a scene from Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

I enjoyed the movie and if you are looking for a different cinema dating back in the past along with a fun movie that will engage you till the end. Moonrise Kingdom can be your watch. I personally didn’t like the use of alcohol or smoking around the movie but it doesn’t need to be criticized heavily as it reflects on the history and realism in the present world. But its dramatic and funny/unfamiliar (whimsical) approach in storytelling seemed enjoyable to me.
