Introduction:-

I really like arts. I believe arts, literature ,sports, music and various other forms of expression of human feelings are the things that make us human. A feeling have a thousand ways for expression and I believe Art is also a huge player in it. Art have been with humanity from a long period of time. Due to my interest for arts I just started to attend exhibitions and I believe I am a amateur artist too. Kalashala is the first place I went to attend exhibition and it holds a special place in my mind. I attended the "jatra" exhibitions organized by it.

"Sudikshya Dongol | Founder of Kalashala"

Kalashala is founded by Sudikshya Dongol. She is 21 year old. She graduated in A levels with majors in Arts and Psychology from GEMS institute of Higher education. Currently, She is in her final year of Bachelors in Fine Arts from Kathmandu University.

The vision behind Kalashala's establishment stems from a desire to cultivate a nurturing environment for individuals with creative inclinations. Founded in March 2022, Kalashala aims to provide a platform where people can host workshops and classes, fostering a community of artistic expression and skill-sharing. Recognizing the abundance of creative talent in our country, kalashala understands that many individuals lack the necessary support and space to showcase their abilities. Thus, Kalashala was established with the goal of creating a communal space where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to explore their creativity freely.

Kalashala is located in Sanepa Chowk, while choosing location they assessed the accessibility of the location to ensure it could be easily reached by everyone. Public transport like Tempo, taxi, pathao, are easily available.

Ms.Sudikshya is balancing her time at Kalashala with her studies, working part-time to contribute to its operations. However, upon completing her's Bachelor's degree, she is eager to transition into a full-time role at Kalashala. This will allow her to dedicate more energy and resources towards organizing a diverse range of workshops and events on a more frequent basis. Looking ahead, her vision for Kalashala includes establishing connections with international artists, serving as a bridge between local community artists and talents from around the globe. This initiative will enrich their offerings and broaden the horizons of their community, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and creativity.

How is the organizational structure of kalashala?

Kalashala is currently centered around a solo operation. As the sole manager, Ms.Sudikshya handles all aspect of its operation, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. She also designs the posters and handles all the social media platform, Kalashala operates on an appointment basis, allowing for flexibility in scheduling and management. At present, kalashala is fortunate to have the support of two dedicated volunteers who assist part-time as needed. However, with plans to transition into full-time operation,they plan to expand the team to accommodate the growing demands of the space and its activities.

"Blue Jatra & Red Unfiltered exhibition at kalashala "

Kalashala has hosted a diverse range of events and activities, including two notable art exhibitions titled "Jatra" and "Unfiltered Expressions." Additionally, they have organized approximately 10 workshops covering various artistic disciplines such as watercolor floral painting, art journaling, dance, mural painting, and more. Alongside these workshops, they've facilitated art markets to showcase local talent and provide a platform for artists to exhibit and sell their work. Furthermore, their regular Sunday art classes provide a consistent opportunity for individuals to hone their skills and explore their creativity in a supportive environment.

"One of the significant milestones for Kalashala was the event titled 'Unfiltered Expression', a collaborative exhibition featuring intellectually disabled artists. This event took place from September 30th to October 21st, 2023, and it stands out as one of our biggest and most impactful endeavours to date. We were thrilled to welcome over 500 visitors who came to appreciate and support the artwork. "

Currently, they are in the planning stages for two exciting workshops scheduled for the upcoming month. However, in the meantime, their focus remains on our ongoing art classes, which take place every Sunday evening.
